The Cashmere Goat?

Goats are believed to be the earliest domesticated animal. Initially, the purpose was meat and milk.

However, as some goats had significant growth of down undercoat, Humans started harvesting the fiber for clothes.

These were goats founds in the cold regions of Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Parts of Xinjiang in China, High altitude plateau of northeast China and Mongolia, Tibet and Ladakh region of India.

Cashmere from Tibet & Ladakh, which came from a different breed of goat, are Known as Pashmina.

Though Pashmina is considered of higher quality, I don’t recommend you to buy Pashmina. This is for two reason.

First, Pashmina is not a legally defined word, one can sell anything in the name of Pashmina, even nylon.

Second, there is microscopic difference between the two fibers. Even an expert eye will have difficulty in separating the two types of Cashmere fibers.

The Cashmere You & I are wearing today are from domesticated goat from inner Asia.

Yours and mine best bet, to stay in the safe side, is to buy Cashmere from these areas. They are of the best quality available in the market. There is no hunting involve and also satisfies all criteria for ethical production of Cashmere wool.

So, These Goats, from Inner Asia is what we call the Cashmere Goat.
